Thanks guys. I wanted some input on the first one before I decided what I was going to do with it.
The 1909 has been altered. The second one is original.
I took a gamble, but I have return privileges. Hate it, because it look pretty wild in hand!

Both of them look altered to me to be honest with you. The toning on the second one looks like a couple of "drops" didn't hit the coin and didn't tone it. It is a nice coin,but something doesn't seem right. The first one defiantly has been altered. Placing my $$ on the second one as well.

yes nice coins but toning is not right. I wish they would leave well enough alone when they have a nice strike, devices, and fields.  |

It doesn't have any streaking patterns and has most likely toned this way from the surrounding environment... long ago. The toning edges fade the way that one would expect and are not harsh or unnatural looking. The toning continues from the field to the relief and rim without breaks (this is not the case in the 1909). This coin has also been slabbed with a grade. The first was was probably cleaned and then intentionally toned with heat and acid paper/chemical. Most likely altered pretty recently too. It's not the color that screams altered, but the pattern of the toning that gives that will give the clues. This of course is just in my humble opinion. |

I sincerely think it is altered. Maybe the lighting in the grading room didn't make it too obvious.

Hey SilverStackerKid. Do you see that little Eagle Eye Photo Seal sticker. That means that the coin was sold by Rick Snow who happens to be THE top dog when it comes to Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents. He literally wrote the book on Indian Head cents. If it merits Rick Snow's seal of approval the coin is as good as gold. Edited by Celticsoul
