Sorry I don't remember what year this was, but would it matter if it is an RPM? I do know it is pre-1964.

The part you think is an RPM is not an RPM. THe shadow is covering the part where I MIGHT see an RPM.

The doubling that is showing is Mechanical Doubling as others have said.
Can you post a photo with the light coming from a different angle? It almost looks like there are splits on the corners of the D, but I can't tell for sure.
