I think the big overlooked coin of this series is the 1976 Type 1. There were only 10,000,000 of them minted and no one pays attention to it. I think having that coin in AU or better condition is a true modern rarity.
By the way, some of the "old timers" refer to this as the 1975 Ike, even though it says 1976 on the coin. I had a heck of a time with my coin dealer the first time I asked about it!

I have several Ike dollars I never realized there were so many people collecting them. I know people like the morgan and peace! Just figured since there was no silver in most variety's they weren't sought after! You learn something everyday. I will have to go and look at mine again.

The Ike is under appreciated, that is for sure. But I, like many people here, love them. The first two coins I ever "collected" were Ikes, so the sentimental attachment is difficult to beat!

My grandfathers old wheat pennies are what got first interested, but my father always use to tell me about the "big, silver Eisenhower dollar" from "when I was a kid" and I was always fascinated by them. Actually, come to think of it he still mentions them everytime he comes over and spots an album or two lying around! I got a few of them and actually just purchased 71s-74s blue Ikes today. I can't wait to get them and add to my collection --Gary

Just gave one of my Ikes to my Uncle(one year younger than me) I'm hoping to plant a seed of coin collecting. I also gave him a small handfull of other coins too including a Peace dollar. He's in from California over family health crisis, and had previously mentioned wanting some "examples" of coins to hand down to his daughters......I didn't want to give "too much"......but enough to "plant" so to speak.......we'll see if the "Ike" is a lure for him. He's called me up in the recent past asking how much a Wheat penny was worth or an Indian Head penny that he's found........(i don't think he's willing to "commit any money" towards the hobby though is the problem !) And he's like a brother to me....but I kind of feel "wounded" that I gave away what I did ! Is that bad of me ? Ha Ha LoL ...... .......

Eagle You are just honest about how you feel! No matter how much you care about someone Its hard giving up precious items! Some people just don't tell you that deep down that's how they feel

Well, he's now got some silver and some "old Classics"....... so that big ole Ike, just might get him going.... The sad part is....I really never expect him to put ANY money towards this hobby, so although the gifts weren't wasted really.....it kind of feels that way......additionally because each and every one of my coins are "precious" to me no matter how small in money value !

I found a roll plus two loose ikes. Nothing interesting in them. But they are still Ikes.

AtiGAti, Check out page 14 of this link http://www.frbservices.org/files/re...rcular_2.pdfIt is Operating Circular 2 and it contains the provisions that apply to a financial institution's cash and food coupon transactions with a Federal Reserve Banks. It has the info for a bank to order Ikes.

I was thinking of starting a thread about ordering coins from a bank, but it looks like this is a good thread to ask. I go two banks normally, and they often have a few rolls of dollars, sometimes with the Presidential, Sacagawea and Susan B. Anthony coins, but nothing other than that. I know the lady at one bank thought I was crazy to ask for them. I would have thought a bank teller to be a little more used to such requests, but what can I say?
Personally, I only want one or two coins of each. I don't need 50 or 100 of each, but I wouldn't mind receiving a good number of coins and then either spending or selling the rest. I was about to order some halves and older dollar coins online over face value, but maybe I'll give bank ordering a try instead.

I tried to order $1000 in IKEs more than a month ago and the teller really did go to the effort to try. They are "unavailable". It might be that some Fed Reserve Banks have them and some don't. Mine was trying to order them from the Dallas Fed Reserve. She also tried armoured car company and no success either.

I've gotten about 50 one time in a baggie that someone had brought to the BOA I go to, but that's it. I've asked a couple times if they can order them, and I was told no. I would go bananas if I found a peace or morgan in a roll of dollars...OMG, just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
