I understand, this could be nothing more than damage or ware. But I will admit I do enjoy the excitement of it. And a professional opinion would be good to have.

Absolutely, I agree with that statement 100%. It is times like this that you live for not only as a variety hunter, but as a coin collector.

This is a tough call. I can see what looks like it could be a second punch that looks similar to an 002 but I am not convinced. I am far from an expert on these. Seal-can you post your overlay pics? Considering what the coin might be and the potential value, I believe I would take the recommendations of others and have one of the experts look at it; for me, it would be worth the fee to have that done.

Quote: Seal-can you post your overlay pics? LOL, I have a hard enough time getting the images cropped properly on my own computer. Where is Coop. He is the master at overlays.

It would be more helpful to have the full date and mint mark area in a closer shot. Sometimes when doing an overlay, with not all of these present, you can miss judge the mint mark location with just part of the devices present. Most of the time when I do an overlay, I look to align the date digits first. If they are not the same height, then that will affect the vertical location of the mint mark. (Sometimes images are taken tilted a bit too much, and the second image is taken flat. This will make the digits look taller (stretched). So when this happens, I have to try to adjust the height of the digits to get a match, then see where the mint marks position is in. that is why I will often make a side by side to show they are the same locations with the date digits and the mint marks.

Yes, and this is the difficulty I have had with this coin. It has proven difficult lining it up. I want to be wrong on this coin. But where the OP is showing the other S is not the position of the famed "horizontal" RPM #2. What he shows is an orientation similar to RPM #1. Naked eye comparison show that the mint mark on this coin is not the same location as the mint mark on the RPM #1. So I am super confused on this one.

The more I look at it, the more I am convinced that if there is a RPM present on this coin it is the #1 and not the number #2. The #2 mint mark is directly under the 0 of the date. Whereas this coin shows the mint mark slightly west of that.

I'll be working on getting a full date shot soon. Hopefully within the next 20 minutes or so.

Here is a side by side. The locations are so close, but the mint marks appear to be at different angles. More images might help on this one. to me the jury is still out at this time.

So my eyes were not deceiving me?

The location was so close, that I had to do a side by side to see the differences. But still waiting for larger images to see if it is an image issue or not?

Wow and love it when you do the grid too. Does the 0 and 2nd 9 seem to be different distances apart from each other also?

I'm having a hard time getting better pictures. Does anyone have a suggestion to get a good image?

Check for a macro setting on your camera, it's usually a little flower symbol, that works best for ultra close ups. Or use a scanner if you have access to one, they usually have excellent zoom and enlargement resolution. Sometimes different light can help the camera focus better. A stand or such to hold the camera steady helps too.
