VF-25 and awesome circulation cameo.

The funny thing about this coin is that I just got back exactly the same coin from NGC TODAY that has exactly the same circulation cameo and when I first saw yours I said, "Holy Bananas, that's my coin"!

Mine graded VF-35 and doing a DIRECT coin in hand to picture comparison I think my VF-25 of yours is right where it should be.

She is a beauty. I mean yours. No I mean mine. No I mean ... never mind...

@ Moxking,I decided to keep this one over the 1839 (seated half)I currently have on ebay. I just liked the look of this one, but the 1839 is nice also.

On my 1837 above I noticed the reeded edge is very light, seems worn down, the reeds are all there but they look more worn than what you would expect based on the overall wear of the coin.

Do you remember if the one you sent out had weak reeding?

I will let you compare with my PCGS VF-25:

Yours has slightly more details than mine.

Quote:
The steam powered presses were now in full operation and the mint staff appeared to be struggling with the changes that the new equipment brought with it. Most if not all of the varieties of 1837 half dollars, along with some of the smaller denominations, show considerable die cracking, exhibiting full or Retained Cuds, in addition to uneven and weak striking.

Quote:
Despite the use of the closed collar to contain expansion when striking, you will find that when you measure the coins of 1837 that they are not uniformly round, but will be slightly different in diameter from side to side and top to bottom.

By Dick Graham
Variety matches that of a GR-5 very common.

VF-25. The reverse is a VF-30, but the obverse rules.
