Odd Weight On A 1974 D Penny - Coin Community Forum

Ferenc R New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 05/07/2016 1:31 pm Hello folks. This is my first post, so I hope it is in an appropriate place. I found a '74 penny that has a weight that flutters between 2.8 and 2.9. It's in great condition for a circulated '74, but other than that, there's nothing strange about it. Any ideas? NoPoMoCo Valued Member United States 403 Posts	Posted 05/07/2016 3:15 pm If we're talking about an unworn 1974-D Lincoln Cent, it should weigh 3.11 grams within a tolerance of 0.12 grams. If your balance is accurate, your coin is slightly outside the tolerance. The off-weight sorting machines at the mint aren't perfect. Report this Post to the Staff
