Hello folks. This is my first post, so I hope it is in an appropriate place. I found a '74 penny that has a weight that flutters between 2.8 and 2.9. It's in great condition for a circulated '74, but other than that, there's nothing strange about it. Any ideas?

Thanks a million.

Need the picture of the coin.
It is mostly likely a worn copper coin or a copper coin with thin plancet.

to CCF. Still within mint tolerance. Copper cent should weight 3.11grams +/- .13grams.

If we're talking about an unworn 1974-D Lincoln Cent, it should weigh 3.11 grams within a tolerance of 0.12 grams. If your balance is accurate, your coin is slightly outside the tolerance. The off-weight sorting machines at the mint aren't perfect.

The general consensus with folks I've spoken too here is that it is well within acceptable weight. Sigh. Still keeping it.
