Sorry it took so long. I fixed the image and have moved this to the Error section. Hopefully, you'll get more responses there.

What areas are you specifically referring to as die errors? There are a number of VAMs for the 1884S, but most of them have to do with the mint mark.

The mark that I see on the face above the eye looks like after-mint damage to me.

I have taken this 1884 S to a Coin Dealer, he said this is a Die Error, on the Eye Brow, there are 3 small extra pieces of Silver on the Brow making it look like Eye Lashes.

Interesting. Becky knows a lot about VAMs. I hope she sees this and comments.

Hi ucadam

can you crop and enlarge the eye ?

I wouldn't mind a closer look before I express an opinion.

I have viewed large scans of this coin from ucadam. He posted this coin on another forum and emailed me a very large scan. In my opinion this is post mint damage. I thought it may have been the reeds from another Morgan that caused the "eyelashes". It looks like a perfect example of a reeded coin striking another coin really hard. He says that they are too far apart and I believe him. It was hit very hard with something, but this damage happened long after this coin circulated. The "eyelashes" are still quite sharp, this would not be the case if this coin had circulated with these marks on it.

But again, this is just my opinion. If you would like an expert opinion (I love VAMs, but I can't call myself an expert) you could send a picture of the coin to Leroy Van Allen. You can find him at Ashmore.com. There is no one alive that is more of an expert on VAMs than him.

Happy hunting ucadam Becky
