I was shopping for a 1921-D Walking Liberty half on ebay and this coin had been listed in the half dollar section. The seller called it EF but it looked lustrous and wear-free to me so I put in the opening bid and won. In-hand it looks problem-free with light contact marks and just a touch of rub on the cheek and the eagle's breast. What kind of grade do you think it deserves?

Oh, I should mention it is quite lustrous and doesn't appear to have any hairline scratches.

Appears to be an AU-55 and I don't see any signs of cleaning. Likewise, it's awfully lustrous to have ever been dipped. If the luster cartwheels when you rotate it, that also helps determine that it hasn't been dipped.

I like her.

AU55 & solid strike, TPG might give a generous 58. Great pickup.

How is this AU-55? I see strong, full luster and hardly any wear. Any other series would get an instant AU-58. Why are Morgans so much more-harshly graded?

It's a nice morgan but looks pretty chewed up. I'd say MS-60. Most AU/55/58 coins that I've seen and own have very clean fields and devices.

Definitely better than EF but I can't really go higher than AU-53 on this one - cheek very busy and there's a lot of luster missing from handling

There are dull spots on the cheek, combined with the fact that the cheek is really chewed up. Some might call this MS-60, but I'd rather own an AU-58 with a slight rub and smooth cheek than this piece piece.

I think it's worth AU-50 to 53 money. Buying this for EF money was a good deal, but it wasn't "a steal."
