Thank you for the condolences. My dad passed away many years ago (cancer). My dad always knew I loved coins too (he got me started with a collection when I was a kid. It was mine, but he was the one who managed it for me).
In a way, I am glad he never managed to sell them all of his coins because now I have a few of them. I actually thought he sold his whole collection years ago when he sold mine for me. My mom and uncle informed me otherwise when they heard I was going to start collecting again.
I am back home now after my visit to family and I took a few sample pictures. It would be kind of crazy to post more than 40+ pictures of coins. So I decided to just post pictures of a few of my favorites from the bunch (it's a decent sampling I think).
There are two problems with pictures. Some of the coins are so shiny they are hard to photograph. The quarters, dimes, and nickles are all proof and some are frosted (if not all are frosted).
The other problem is that they are mostly in very old, scratched up, vinyl sleeves and it's hard to photograph them because it's very reflective. Plus, it makes some of the coins look scratched when they aren't (or aren't scratched that much). The Peace dollar picture I took is a prime example of this. You can see on the top in the obverse picture how the plastic is reflecting and is scratched. The nickles, dimes, and quarters are all completely flawless (not a scratch or mark on them), but the photos make them look like they are covered in nicks and scratches. On top of that, I had to hold them open to take some of the pictures (the plastic folded with a coin description on paper in one part and the coin in another). they've been folded shut so long they didn't want to open.
I am probably going to need to put some of them in new holders. Especially the ones that are just loose in those plastic holders. I am afraid the coins might fall out.
Next post will be all the pictures!
