ebay buyer protection is worth 10% to a lot of people, especially if they do not know sellers in the marketplace. ebay charges the buyer about 12% all told, so their cost has to be passed through.

Some people get sucked into the auctions, too and end up paying more than the item is worth. Bidding war

Nobody mentioned yet, there are some items that can be purchased with ebay bucks. If you have bucks to spend- you may as well get something even if you are paying a few extra dollars for it. You can also earn ebay bucks on some purchases. Sometimes with considerable multiples I have an open offer for 10% Bucks today. Also, there are shopping portals that may award you for purchases on ebay. (I don't know if coins qualify for all of these benefits, so this is more of a general idea.) |

I agree with what others have said. The only weird thing that gets me is when people buy an item or coin for "X" price but just doing a search shows the exact same thing a few listings down that is a cheaper price. I know seller feedback and reputation plays a big part but I always thought that was funny even when I sell stuff people buy from me at a higher price sometimes than another very reputable BIN on the same screen.

I cannot understand why people will spend valuable time shopping for "the best deal". All too often, the cheaper option has one difference, such as shipping cost, or return policy, or whatever. Either way, my shopping mentality is - if you find something that you want- for a price that you are willing to pay for it, just buy it. you may save a few dollars, but you cannot get back the time spent in doing so. Advertisers know this, and cash in on people like me. Be the first in the results, and your sales will boost. |

There are all kind of things that make me pay a little more for a similar item. Seller feedback and reputation (I've mentally blacklisted a few, since ebay doesn't provide that feature), whether I'd have to pay sales tax, return policies, quality of the listing (and especially the pictures) and the level of trust they instill... I'll also admit that I've rejected more than a few because of political messages, either in the seller-name or some statement in the listing. When there are multiple options, I'll happy pick the seller that doesn't turn me off, even if it costs more. If it's the only one available, I can wait. There are other things on my want list. It's not like I have to make a profit on every purchase and eventual sale. |

Another reason I sometimes pay over the odds on ebay is when it's a foreign (i.e. for me, not British) coin being offered by a vendor in the UK. I've bought a few American coins from UK buyers over the past two years, and possibly slightly overpaid, but at least I haven't had to pay huge postage fees or needed to worry about Customs dues! |

As a husband, As many of us here are, I can get out of the house for personal fun a few hours here and there.I would rather buy my coins on ebay when I have a minute at home and then spend my fun time out having a few pints with my buds. And ebay makes it really easy with alerts and followed searches. That is worth it for me to pay a little more at times. Plus there is a huge variety and turn over of coins so there is always something new. |

When I am looking for something hard to find, maybe newly released and few carry it I check the bay first. Or, when I just need one or two of something, to the bay. If I'm not buying much the couple dollars extra is fine with me. If I want it faster, often ebay sellers can come through. |

I live 60+ miles from my LCS, 90 miles from the site of this weekend's TNA convention. My LCS stocks primarily US classics and bullion, neither which interest me. So, ebay is a necessity. I would like to think I have not overpaid for a single coin as I diligently shop and search before buying. I have returned a high percentage of misdescribed coins, and haven't had to eat a single purchase yet. |

Lol, as a seller I was wondering why the bottom had dropped out on the market! I am selling things for much much less than I was 6 months ago! Common unc Peace dollars are 18 to 20 dollars...just sold 4 of them, and all the comps were the same. Barber dimes below vf going for melt! In fact I stopped selling dimes totally after I realized I was getting the same money for LWC that I was silver dimes! I sold 40 LWC for about $50 versus 30 Barbers for $37! Most mint marked! Now of course if I wanted to BUY something..well....every sniper in the western hemisphere is bidding on the same coin! |

I'm seeing plenty of good deals on ebay if you know what to buy. Morgans, especially toned, aren't the place to look. My problem is that most people/dealers are willing to pay just a little more than me. My budget is small, so have to be very choosy. |

It's more than the summer slow down. I have been a dealer for years. It has been almost 8 years since I sold an Unc Peace dollar for less than $24, or an Unc Morgan for less than $30. My last few Morgans went for between $22 and $24. I haven't sold one of that low since before the great melt. The other local dealers were saying much the same. The local bullion dealars are really complaining. MOst of them have dropped their sell prices down to about $18 to $20. I think we are seeing a stabilization of prices after the large run up during the great melt. |
