2007 Monticello Nickel | Strange Color

Chaotech Valued Member United States 99 Posts	Posted 04/20/2008 02:27 am I am a pocket change surfer and today I pulled out a 2007 Monticello Nickel the front of it is normal nickel finish, the back is a nickel finish with a VERY bright bronze / copper color throughout most of the middle, as if the outter layer is very thin or weak... anyone know what causes this? does it increase value at all? amac44 Member United States 3242 Posts	Posted 04/21/2008 08:04 am I have 4 rolls of 2006P+D&2007P+D nickels that look like normal toning to me all mine have the same type color to them. mine are P&D's so it can't be just Philly because the Denver look the same too It maybe a new metal mix? biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 04/21/2008 12:53 pm I do not think it is possible to have sintering on only one side of a coin, there is not outer layer on a nickel- it is an alloy, and they have definitely not changed alloys(that takes an act of Congress).
