Good evening all,

I am relatively new to coin collecting researching my father-in-law's coins. I have been cataloging them in a nice app called US coins plus. They are all raw coins and I wanted to get a few graded. I decided to try NGC and sent them 5 older coins and one modern. That was almost 7 weeks ago. Last week they contacted me and said that 1 of them could benefit from conservation. They are very responsive when they are asking me questions (like do I want to buy additional services) but when I ask my own questions like when are my coins coming back, there is nothing but crickets.
So my questions:
Is this an unusually long time or did I just catch them at a bad time?
Is there a better way to submit coins i.e.: one at a time that would get better results?
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dshea215

Welcome to CCF.

You may get more responses if these question were moved to the
third party grading section ( TPG).

Members will want to know what coins you sent in, and what tier level
the coin were sent into.

Did you set up a account with NGC ? .. if so you should be able to
track the submission online.

Thanks, I sent 5 coins to the economy tier, and 1 to the modern. I have been tracking the submissions. The modern went to quality control in a week. The economies sat in the received status for 4+ weeks. I will post a list of the coins

You have to tell them yes or no for the conservation. Until they get a response from you they will hold the order and it will sit forever. But in general yes economy is almost always the slowest tier

Yes, I confirmed I wanted the conservation. It looks like it went into conservation and out again the same day. Now it is sitting in "scheduled for grading". I also asked them to break up the return shipping so I didn't have to wait for the ones that were done. That was last Wednesday.

I guess I am just impatient because this is the first time I have submitted coins for grading and I am anxious to get them back.

So I received my coins back today. The Eagle came back a perfect pf70. The one they conserved came back au50. The other 4 all came back "improperly cleaned". I now these coins had a long history before me. How can they tell if it has been cleaned? I wonder if I nagged too much and they were just getting even. I'm glad I have them back, but I feel cheated somehow.

INB is a "basement slabber" service. Their grading is considered to be worthless and their MS-70 would probably come back from one of the major services as a MS-63 or 64 at best and worth between 5 and 25 cents.

And it is considered bad form to highjack someone else's thread, especially on a different topic. Best to start your own thread.
