When I started collecting coins the easy way to start was roll hunting. Then I discovered star notes and was on the lookout for them. Soon I started to buy bricks of one dollar bills and look through them for stars and good serial numbers. Today I had $200 to use and found 2 $1 star notes. After cashing them back in I bought $200 worth of $2 bills. I was looking for star notes and found this instead.  |

I was thinking of asking if quote 'brick hunting' was possible. I didn't know if bills where re-wrappend or if they are only wrapped one time when their first printed from the press.
Anybody know about the 1976 2 dollar bill? I've seen these selling for premiums if they're in unc. cond.

I am just researching values, but I also found these 2 beauties. They are consecutive #'s series 1976 and both are in crisp unc. condition.  Edited by jewelcard

Out of curiosity , How much is a brick of 1976 $2 worth? I am more a coin person, but I do have some stashed away from 20+ years ago. I have seen some selling 3 or 5 in order for several times face, but never knew how successful they were.

Is your brick all consecutive numbers? If it is that will carry a real nice premium.

I have 3 bricks that go from 39575101A to 39575400A 2 bricks from 36708301A to 367083500A, and 1 more that is -6901A to -7000A and 1 incomplete one from 6111A- 6200A ( this one had other odd SN to make up the total. It also had a date stamp on the band, where as the others don't. it came more recent , 1/12/97. Can you tell I like $2 bills!  Jim |

Well today I went through another $400 in $2 dollar bills. I managed to pull these 2 notes. A series 1963 red seal and a series 1976 star note. I forgot to metion that the earlier red seal I found is a series 1953A.  Edited by jewelcard

Well, that settles it. I want to buy me a brick of 2's.
Two questions
How much is a red seal worth?
Do you have to order your bricks or does your bank usually have them?

I just go to the bank and ask for $2's. The banks I have tried have already had them there. I have seen bricks of $50 worth and $100 worth, depends on the bank. As with any notes condition and age have a lot to due with value, but a common red seal seems to go for around $5 on ebay. |

I have $ 200.00 worth from 76 in order I always wounder what they are worth. I also have about 150 dollars of red twos from the old days some good some bad but I keep them all. Someday kids will sell them at a yard sale for little or nothing you know how that goes.

I went to my bank today but they only have $16 in two's and said that if I wanted more they could order me $2000 but no less and sadly I don't have that kinda money. I did get some ones and found some newer stars and one 1974 Au note.

A good thing to keep an eye out for are $2 red seal star notes. In superb conditions they can get rather pricey.
