1964 Lincoln Cent...error? Cracked Die?

dcv Valued Member United States 142 Posts	Posted 06/03/2008 04:50 am I have a roll of uncirculated 1964 Lincoln cents that I just opened for the first time since it came from the bank 44 years ago. I was looking through them and saw what initially looked like a scratch on Lincoln's forehead. When I looked closer, I realized it wasn't a scratch but a ridge. It is shiny like the rest of the coin. I looked through the roll and found five more with the same ridge in the same place on each. Though the picture I took might seem otherwise, these are beautiful shiny MS cents. I had to shoot at a low angle and use a flash to make the ridge show up. Is this the result of a cracked die? If so, does it make the coin more or less valuable? If not, what is it? dcv Valued Member United States 142 Posts	Posted 06/03/2008 2:45 pm If I am understanding you correctly, I think you are saying that this is, in fact, a die crack and that they were quite common...right? I keep my coins in three categories. There is the "general population" where probably 95% of my coins are. These are coins in all grades of all denominations that are fairly normal for their grade. Then there is a group that are special in a "good" way. This is where I would keep Jefferson nickels with "full steps"...or coins that have incredible toning....or a doubled die....etc. Finally, I have a group that are "sub-standard". Coins with an excessive amount of gunk on them....or heavily scratched...or dented rims...etc. I would just like to know if the die cracks make these coins more or less valuable so I know which category to put them in. Another way of asking this would be... If I advertised a roll on uncirculated 1964 Lincoln cents for sale.
