1cent Pillar of the Community Canada 1051 Posts	Posted 02/23/2020 5:51 pm I ordered from MCM the other day and the shipping said "standard international", which ended up being UPS (uh-oh...should have paid more attention). My coin came in a padded envelope, and in the end cost me just over $61 for shipping and border fees. The coin itself cost me $105. $38 of the shipping was charged by MCM, $23 more was charged by UPS before they would release it. Just another reminder to always, always, use USPS to Canada. 1cent Pillar of the Community Canada 1051 Posts	Posted 03/01/2020 01:53 am It is a good idea, but some dealers charge too much...and in this case the coin I ordered was the latest high relief Wedge Tailed Eagle from Australia, which I haven't been able to find in Canada. superjeka New Member Canada 3 Posts	Posted 03/04/2020 12:35 am I'm experiencing similar problems. I have ordered two coins from Europe, both are fine silver and legal tender, for total about 780 CAD. To UPS I should pay 135 CAD taxes - about 20%, when this type of coins is tax free, I also checked official Customs Tariff document. I refused to pay, and now I'm trying to clear with customers service WHY should I pay. Their first step was to reference me to Canada Customs, and Canada Customs as expected charges for declaration of content. Now I'm trying to clear what UPS declared. Anyway, I'm not going to pay, and I'll ask the dealer to ship it with other service when he gets it back. My question is: Is it legal? I mean, UPS's charges? They claim my package is subject to taxes - no problem, please show me any document with explanation what I'm paying for. They do not tell me (as for now). I see it as 'theft', or 'theft attempt', is it possible to sue them? Report this Post to the Staff
Pacificoin Pillar of the Community Canada 5419 Posts	Posted 03/04/2020 05:53 am Said once , said a thousand times , NEVER , EVER use anything but the POSTAL service , USPS, Canada Post Royal Mail , etc ., if you wish to avoid these issues . Insist on it or simply do not buy from sellers who use only UPS , FedEx or the other private shippers . You will save not only money but untold grief as well ! Report this Post to the Staff

And, BTW, I have a very good experience with DHL - fast, without any fictional charges. Hope at least them will not take experience from UPS and Fedex. But my question is again: Is it legal? This is my item, I should not pay for it any additional fees, why do you charge me? And if I don't pay, suppose they send it back. And let's imagine the seller refunds me and don't ship with other service. I won these coins on auction, the regular price is higher, I loose money anyway, can I sue them for this? Or, another situation: suppose, I'm dealer, I sold these coins and did not receive them because of UPS's charges - I loose money again. Report this Post to the Staff

No you can't sue and if you could , throwing bad money after good. Getting satisfaction but going broke doing it is foolish at best . Last but not least , a smart dealer never sells something he does not have in inventory. So repeat and rinse .......use the Postal service and you avoid a mess .. Report this Post to the Staff
superjeka New Member Canada 3 Posts	Posted 03/06/2020 12:48 pm I'm not a dealer, it was example. It's common practice to sell coins before it released, pre-sale. And BTW, I advise to contact shipping company (in my case UPS), and talk to them. This is what I did, and now, according to UPS, they are going to remove these charges. I asked to provide new invoice from the seller, with full description and tariff code, send it to UPS, etc, but it's better than paying 135$ for nothing. Hope the issue will be resolved soon, I'll update here if anyone is interested. Report this Post to the Staff
