At first glance perhaps a partially grease-filled die, but most likely a direct hit.

to the CCF!

A direct hit simply means it was struck squarely by another object in that exact place, displacing the metal and somewhat distorting the appearance. The numeral 4 for this year was quite small, like the numeral 1 - much smaller than the 9 and the 3.

It was a Grease Filled Die. Not uncommon, I have one just like it.

It looks like Post Strike Damage, since there's pushed and flattened metal.

I just happened to find one of these and someone else posted one not too long ago. I agree with Jim, it's a minor Greaser

Factor in the above suggestions and add, the die wear with the steel planchets, this event happened several times that year. Sometimes the 4 was almost gone. But no premium because it was an event that happened often. Kind of like the question why are diamonds more expensive than sand when something is common less interest is shown for them. Like die chips and die cracks, they happen.
