Hi Amac, Can you explain what makes this coin special? I don't see any obvious repunching of the mintmark. Maybe it's just too subtle for me?

The "D" position looks a little high. But I don't know if that's abnormal, my '56 is lower. Here's a 58. Image: coin1958001.jpg61.97 KB Image: coin1958002.jpg61.8 KB

The position of the mint mark on any pre-1990 business strike is irrelevant since the mint marks were applied to the dies by hand punching. Because of that, variation in position is to be expected but some of the more radical ones can carry a small premium(crooked, touching the date, etc).

amac, I don't think so. Your MM seems to be tilted in the wrong direction. If you draw a straight line accross the top of your MM it clearly go below the date. A straight line from the one pictured touches the bottom of the 5 and cuts into the 9. To clear up some confusion here, are you saying this is the coin Charles has listed as 1MM-008 ?

In 56 all MM were hand punched so not all look the same. I will ck CC site soon as I cam about the 1MM-008

amac, if I understand it correctly, the MM was hand punched onto the die, not each individual coin, so all coins produced by that particular die would have the same mintmark and varity.

I think it look the same in the 1st picture the small one. as I make the picture larger it fades away. but I have shipped it to ANACS yesterday with some of the shop's coin so I don't have to pay but $8.00. all we can do now is wait and see what it is a MS-64 R or RB or MS-64 D/D this is better one

Honestly from your initial pictures I don't think it's an RPM at all, and definitely not RPM-008 as the primary mintmark position is all wrong. Compare your pictures yesterday to the picture from a few hours ago and you can see the different position.
It could be RPM-018, that secondary D is much harder to see and photograph. On RPM-018 the vertical line of the Ds will be one right above the other (compare to the photo of RPM-008, the secondary mintmark is to the right of the primary).

Amac,
Your coin is not in any way the same as the one you are comparing to the picture from a book that you placed further down in the thread.
Thanks, Bill

Hi Sean, It's good to see you post in here now and then. For those who don't know Sean, he is extrememly well versed in die varieties. Many moons ago...(Too many, I think) Sean gave me his copy of an older version of the CherryPickers' Guide and was a big part of my getting involved with searching for die varieties. I also had a fun time finding coins struck on incomplete planchets for Sean as he was putting a nice collection of them together. We also have a fun history together involving a very nice 1984 DDO cent. Again, It's good to see you in here Sean! Post a few more when you can:-) Have Fun, Bill
