Hi all, I have been collecting coins for many years, and my dad did so before me. I have been given numerous foreign coins for many years and am just now going through it with my kids. I found an interesting coin that I am very curious about. I am wondering if anyone here would know anything about it. It is a 1897 $1 Estados Unidos Mexicanos silver surrounding copper. I am very new and not sure how to add pictures...but once I figure it out I will do so. Thanks for any info!
It is actually a 1997 one Peso. It is the current money of Mexico and has a face value of about 5¢. It is bi-metallic with a center of aluminum-bronze alloy and an outer ring of stainless steel.
This is a rather worn example, and the second date digit is just a bit damaged to look like an eight.
