I recently sold a coin that I had owned for about two days. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Now I really do not know how to grade at all yet. Going by the descrption that the RedBook gives, I would say anywhere from 60-64. I really do not know. It could be more, could be less. But no matter what I say, PLEASE be your own judge. I provided a couple pictures that show the coin well. If you would like any other pictures, just let me know. I will do my best to get you what you need. I do guarentee the coin to be authentic... there is no two ways about that. I have told you everything I know about coins. I am new into coin collecting, stumbled across this at a reasonable price, and figured I would see what it would go for. Once again, if there is anything I can do to help you out, please do not hesitate to ask a question. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- That was the item description. The buyer got the coin, and said that it appears to have been cleaned at one point in time. I had no idea on this. He said he is going to send it in and if it comes back as cleaned, he will not be happy. Who will this be on? I stated numerous times that if any other info is need or more pics or anything, to let me know. I have no problem working with the buyer to get things straightened out... but I am just wondering who this would be on? Thanks for the input! Report this Post to the Staff

Susanlynn9 Forum Mom United States 5877 Posts	Posted 01/13/2006 12:04 pm If the coin has been cleaned, I would say that it would fall under your responsibility (as long as the buyer has not removed it from the holder that you sent it to him in). If he thinks its been cleaned, give him a refund, then file a mutually agreed transaction withdrawal and you will get your final fees back. If he wants to take the chance and send it in, that's on him. Then he owns it. Give him the option to return it before being sent in, and my feeling is you've done all you can do. He should not get the option to send it in and then return it to you. He can either return it or he can choose to keep it and send it in to a TPG if he chooses. The problem with letting him submit the coin is that you have no way of knowing if he switches the coin out on you. The only way I would accept the return is in the original holder you shipped to him. Many "experts" have sent coins in to TPG's expecting high MS designations and have had them bodybagged. Since this Peace dollar may or may not have been cleaned, but seems readily identifiable and would normally be difficult to switch, let the buyer send it in for grading (but only to one of the top four TPGs). If it comes back bodybagged (or slabbed by ANACS but with the label annotation "cleaned"), then the buyer could return it. However, if it were me as a seller, before this option is presented, I would make an evaluation on the character of the buyer based on his/her feedback and emails before I agreed with the deal; if he's a large dealer with a fair amount of negative feedback, then a switch is far more likely than with a small-time collector with 100% feedback. I did this twice as a buyer with two Morgans that were too close to call on whether they were cleaned or not: I made deals acceptible to the sellers that I would submit the coins at my expense. If they came back bodybagged, I would return the coins to them and they would refund. Both came back bodybagged and I got my payments returned. It cost us both money, but that's a cost of doing business and all parties werre satisfied. That said, if there's a question whether or not a coin has been cleaned (and it's often too difficult to tell from an image), it most likely has been cleaned. Fred Report this Post to the Staff

Just looking at the lower right/bottom quad/half, looks like something was done, scratchy looking #1/whizzed?. Then at 12 o'clock and 9 o'clock looks like toning that was not touched. Any way this coins looks very suspicious and I am willing to bet that pcgs, and ngc would return it in a body bag--sorry bro... A better sharper pick would help, looks like pic provided from a scanner, not camera.. Report this Post to the Staff

He mighta been using Doug P's thin-glass-at-an-angle technique to get better luster, but I think it was a camera. But, certainly a better pic would help us. Report this Post to the Staff
