@cc10, from your pics, it is hard to tell if that is a scratch or a strike-through. It looks like it progresses all the way out to the rim, which to me suggests a scratch. On the other hand, at least for the letters A and M, it doesn't appear to be on top of the letters--only underneath. F, E, R, and I seem to show this linear defect on top of the letter.

It is a small gouge at the top of the F that seems to go through the f but continues on to America but it's not ontop of the letters

The dimes often show chips on the fields and on the devices as well. They may have not been tempered correctly. Making the dies brittle?

Way too sharply defined and angled for damage. Lean toward odd die chip. It is hard to figure.

Thank each 1 of you for your input. It still has me scratching my head if it's just a coincidence that there's a start to the error or whatever you may wanna call it and somehow keeps running in syncince with the line beginning with the A goes in between A and M continuing..

Coinfrog, I wouldn't say so. There's obvious damage on the olive leaf and where"AMERICA" is.

Not because it's a coin in my procession but I agree there is damage to the leaf the torch has a chip missing but what has my eye is the line that runs underneath the A M into the E theres no damage to the surface of the coin in that area

@CC10, don't stress about causing controversy--we all give our own opinions and then you as the OP can take this in aggregate. Most of time, we mostly agree.
