I like #4 the best. The other three are just okay. There has been plenty of talk about "copper" (bronze or brass) cents for 2009. I am still not sure if there is any reality to it; and I will not be sure until I see them offered for sale (if they mint them for Mint/Proof sets only) or I get one in change with the correct weight.  |

Do you think these will be sold by the Mint in bags and or rolls? Or will we have to wait till we get them in circulation and in banks? mila_  |

I'm glad to hear that people here like #4. I didn't think we would get one of the unfinished capital dome designs because the committes didn't sem to think that people would understand it. Frankly I think they probably won't understand #3. #2 is OK but since it is supposed to emphasize his boyhood in Indiana I think they should have made his proportionate size smaller. The legislation allows for the use of the original bronze composition for cent for "numismatic" purposes which would imply "special" coins that would sell for more than face value. In other words it is allowed for coins to be sold in sets. There will be no intentional Bronze cents for circulation. Quote:

I like number four the best. The US mint really isn't designing excellent coins anymore IMO. I don't think that any of the newer coins that I have seen really have anything that makes me go wow to them. Not like the older US coins. |

Being new to collecting doesn't mean it affects my eyesight....They could have taken a 5 year old kids drawing of what Lincoln means to them and etched that on the die....At least there would have been some thought put into it! I am also disappointed... |

They are ok, barely. Like most everything else coming from the mint, kinda boring and ho-hum...
I never like the memorials as much as the wheats either. I always thought the IH was a better design than the Lincoln. I have never been a fan of politicians on our coinage. I much prefered lady liberty...

I should hope so after the $700 Billion gift to the suits that got us in this mess. I'd say give the suits responsible some samples too--like a $50 bag, tossed off a skyscraper. If you catch the bag, your company gets a bailout--call it sacrifice. I think the Mint would get good collector response from copper/bronze issues. I also will be looking closely at these for any possible errors/varieties--although I'm not sold on these designs. Darn.  Edited by KurtS

I like #4 the best. #1 looks like the label of a syrup bottle. #2 looks like it should have a caption under it, like: "Abe could not make it to the outhouse, so he made do with what was immediately available." #3 just looks kinda busy.
Maybe when we have the actual coins in hand it will look better.
