Mainly posting this as an FYI. Picked up for a few bucks (Happy Meal, Go Large ). It is a Key Date coin (1922 No D..maybe), but too many issues to grade for potential worth IMO. Yellow substance alone ends that option for the most part (unless someone on CC knows it's actual toning? Nah).

I will ask, though I have never cleaned a coin, or used Acetone, as has been suggested for some coins in past posts....maybe this is a acetone candadite (or other chemical) to see if that Yellow substance stain on Reverse and some on Obverse, can be removed and reveal a worn but popular key date coin, but also ends grading option. Hence, that is not the goal.

The mm 'D' not being present? Not sure. Looks like a dent near where it should be. Foul play? Trying to remove? Meh. Maybe.

OR.....(drum roll please...just leave as is?).

Anyway...I think if cleaned up with care, it's a nice addition to the Lincoln Cent build up. So here for the viewing pleasure of all:

You can try acetone, but I don't think it will help much. I also think that hit below the date removes any chance of it being called "No D."

Acetone won't necessarily make it "non-gradable" so give it a shot if you want. I don't see that there's much to lose.

Agreed spruett. Grading on this one was never the goal. Looked ungradable before I bought it for a few bucks. But a cleaning, if it works within reason, can fill that 1922 No D, or Weak D requirement for the collection, so it looks decent at least. More copper shine maybe. So I may just give it a shot. Always wanted to see if acetone does what folks say it does, if done right. You tube time.

I know some folks hate cleaning in any case. Think coins should remain the way they are as they traveled over the decades. I agree actually. Never cleaned a coin once. But in this case I see an exception. As you said, what's to lose? I won't destroy it. May not look much better after I'm done anyway. I'll think about it. Not a priority at the moment. lol Ok thx.

I'm skeptical about this one.

It doesn't look like the strong reverse to me.

Yea...on this one I am now thinkin a bust. The second '2' not like the many samples I compared to. 'L' seems ok. Very weak Reverse. Sure, it could be wear, as this thing looks to have had some bad days/years/decades (if it was real at all). Meh. Done with this 1922 deal for now. Will keep looking for a better condition genuine sample.

FWIW, a genuine 1922. Hard to say more than that.

Just a quick follow up. This alleged 'No D' is in fact a weak D. A good lesson in pictures can be deceiving. Ya have to wonder how those bidding pictures don't show any D, and only that slight gash/ding. Lighting? Yes. Last picture shows no D with a minor shift in camera/lighting angle.

Those same pictures above seem to show stains IMO, but in my hands it looks now like just good old toning, albeit, not very attractive toning. Not sure what it is. Or, it is staining. Just not sure. Moving on...

In the new pictures posted below, and as a side note, IMO the second '2' does look correct per established criteria for the 1922 D/Weak D/No D Cent. The 'L' in LIBERTY seems correctly placed per infamous Die #2 as well. It's authentic IMO, less the Weak Reverse question, but better days long gone for this sample.

Anyway, just for the record, here is the evidence for the weak D. No disputing these pictures:

Spruett...Just updated with more/different pictures, and modified comments as new pics changed the narrative a bit.

Crazy thing to, I thought I got kind of snookered on this deal, but didn't. I just realized it was listed as a 1922 D. Lol. I chose to get it because the pictures seemed to show no D. So I took a chance. The seller probably knew this. Maybe not. But I bit the bait.

However, I paid about $23....but PCGS still has this 1922 Weak D @ say somewhere between G6 / G10....which is about $50 to $75. Meh. So still an ok deal. I'm keeping it as is. No harm/No foul.
