I have a cent struck on a dime blank, graded and slabed Ms 65. Its going to auction soon. I see many others were the label reads struck on a 10c planchet. What is the difference between the two?

Well the devices would fall over the edge of the coin. The term dime and 10 cent planchets mean the same thing.

Planchet and Blank are sometimes used to refer to the same thing; a coin that has not been struck by the dies.

Most of the time the term for the round metal disc that has NOT been through the upsetting mill is a "blank." These are flat faced with no raised rim. This is also called a Type I when referring to the disc and also known as a blank.

After the disc has been processed by the upsetting mill it will have a raised rim around the outside. This is more often called a Type II when referring to the disc and also known as a "Planchet."

Older pennies struck on silver dime planchets are among the rarest of all off metal strikes.
Why?
Such an error is an upgrade in face value.

With World coins, it is far more common (although still very scarce), to find a base metal coin struck on the wrong planchet, which is also of base metal or alloy.
