Who said there is only one Chinese coin collector here ;)
The literal translation of "iµ" seems to be "entering in a chest". This most definately cannot be a coin nor a medal but instead some kind of novelty.
As this is the year of dog, can I assume that this item was made 12 years ago?

The coin should be 1994 since most probably it is for the year of the dog. I asked my friend who studies chinese, she says there is no kind of number or anything to define value. So I can use my vote over token, medal etc. A quick search over the net returned no result:(

More inclined to agree with you Gx....I was also thinking about some sort of a talisman/charm but gave up on that line of thinking with the way the dog is strucked. As for your comment about "the only Chinese coin collector", there are at least two now...sunyang from the People's Republic of China is a new member here...[:p]

Sunyang, I am sure there are members here who will be interested in ancient Chinese coins. I myself would like to know coins of the various dynasties. You can always start an educational thread or two at the world coins section. Post scans if you have any. Looking forward to your posts....

Sunyang you could start a new topic under "World coins" about Chinese coins. I'm sure it will be interesting, you can startby describing your avatar coin. The dragon looks nice.

That is what I made out as well...hence my thinking that it is some sort of a talisman/charm. However, what is on the other side do not support this line of thinking. It does not tie in with any of the religions observed in the region.

hi, It is a 'huaqian',a memorial currency! and someone tell me that it may be made in last few years. If you have a ancient memorial currency,it may have some value. 'huaqian' is used to appreciate and enjoy, decorate, joyous, donate, celebrate, press evil, pray. In china, it is about US$ 50-200 .
