I am new to coins but have become very interested because we received my partner's great grandfather's collection. It looks like he just saved coins he liked or that were going out of circulation. Nothing is graded and these were saved in old prescription bottles, so its not like a formal collection. Anyway I found about 15 Ben Franklin half dollars and don't know anything about them. I did do a basic google search. I have 1951, 54, 58, 60-63. The most are from 1961. The picture is of the 1951 and then 2 of the 61s for reference. Any knowledge or help would be appreciated!

That's a nice collection! I'm sure your searching gave you the basic information about the series. Although it was a fairly short lived series, all the halves in the series had a fairly high mintage. Unless the coins are uncirculated, they tend to sell just for their bullion value, which today would be around $135 for all 15 of them. The coins you pictured would generally be considered "average circulated"(usually in the Fine to AU grade with no problems like deep gouges or other damage) and would be the most desirable for people who collect US coins as bullion, I imagine the others that you have probably look similar to these.

Yes, they are all relatively the same condition. I did notice on the 1958s there were blobs on the outer edge on the obverse. Wasnt sure if this is just damage or something that happened to them in the mint of that year. Thanks for the info!

The Franklins you have pictured all have mint marks. 1951 S, the others are Ds. The mint mark is above the bell, below the "E" in states. Look at them closely under magnification. They may be RPMs (re-punched mintmarks).

Are repunched mint marks common on these?

Would this be an example of what you were talking about?

Possibly an RPM.
What is the year of this one?

and check the 58 to see if it is a type 1 or type 2 reverse.
The eagle on reverse will be diff that the ones of the other coins.
