kuhli Valued Member United States 230 Posts	Posted 12/08/2008 10:11 pm there's a possibility it was struck at the Philly mint. 25 cents (easily determined by the rim edging) KM#36 dated 1944, struck from 1944-1975 minted in Philadelphia USA, Birmingham UK and The Royal Mint in London. Sap Moderator Australia 16832 Posts	Posted 12/09/2008 02:59 am The Lion of Judah was used on the coinage of all emperors of Ethiopia since they began making Western-style coinage in the 1800's. But in this case you are correct; the emperor portrayed here is indeed Haile Selassie, the last emperor. As GO said, the coin is dated "1936" in the Ethiopian calendar, which is eight years behind ours; "1936 EE" translates to 1944 AD. However, as kuhli stated, these coins continued to be struck afterwards, with the date "frozen" at 1936.
