Second, prior to striking, planchets don't have these lines and even if somehow one did, the striking process would have flattened them out. Every once in a while, we see a coin struck from a die with a lathe line left in it, but never anything like this. I agree that these were added after this coin left the mint, but I must say that I haven't seen this type of damage, where the portrait was affected, but largely not the inscriptions. But I haven't seen where the rings go over the raised devices. It had to take someone some time to do this. Report this Post to the Staff
