1879/8 5C PR69 PCGS. The Single Finest Proof in the Series. There are probably many Shield nickel specialists aware of this coin, who have seen it listed on the PCGS Population Report. This is the single finest Shield nickel proof certified. Period. At PCGS or NGC. A monumental offering as such, it features the 9 in the date punched over a previously entered 8. Breen describes the variety: "As the 9 is narrower than the 8, faint traces of 8 can sometimes be seen on either side, but usually only within top and bottom. Use a microscope; the traces of 8 are always faint. Rare." The surfaces are reflective beneath a layer of pastel iridescence that includes shades of blue, green, rose, and lemon-gold. Both sides are flawless. There is a single lint mark near the right serif of the T in CENTS. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 1 in 69, 0 finer (11/18).   Check out Shield nickels on ebay. Beat me to it Grape, I came to say over graded too, but where should it be? I think it's more like a PR67+ with great eye appeal, and a weaker strike than I'd like also not the best planchet either.

I'd say 67/+. Between the spotting, low quality planchet, visible surface hits and what maybe onset Corrosion I cant see it getting any higher than 67+
