I am thinking of a long term project to start building a Fine to Very Fine set of SLQ. I am trying to be realistic as to my coin budget and I know I cannot afford several coins in this series. The seller of this coin below is open to offers, and I am turning to you my fellow members, to help me, please. What grade would you assign to this coin, and what would you say is a fair (to both of us) offer I should submit? For those of you that recognize the seller, is he/she a good dealer? Thank you! I will let you know if I get the coin Edited by merclover 02/03/2021 12:12 am

I'd say you're probably in the ballpark with the grade. The seller asking price seems reasonable. Offer him $10.00 lees, see what he says.

This looks like a solid VF20 to me, but I think it could snag VF25 The 2020 Red Book puts that at a value of ~$75 retail. Based on what I see from sold ebay listings I think ~$50-60 seems reasonable, but valuing stuff can be very difficult. I recommend you take a look through sold listings and see what stuff sells for and whether you feel the prices they sold for are reasonable to you. Hopefully others will have plenty to say to give you a solid grouping of opinions

I'm at VF30. Never bought from this seller, so I can't offer any input there. Id say $65-$70 price range is fair.

Are we in a "buyers market", or sellers?

VF Details cleaned.
The coin has full rivets on the shield, full date with a little wear, and the reverse is showing a cleaning with hairlines. The seller may be motivated to sell as he has about 10 of the 1917 T1 for sale and most looked cleaned. I have not bought from the seller, but one of the seller's coins was harshly cleaned with no note of cleaning.

I agree with slider23. Clear cleaned coin, but a bad clean also. My opinion is toothpaste clean.

VF20. the overall look of the coin gives the impression that it was cleaned a while ago. I agree with the $75 price tag but that would be a coin that graded straight. if I was buying it my top price would be around $50-55

I wrote the seller late this afternoon to ask if the coin had been cleaned, and his/her reply just a short time later is simply "yes." I appreciate the sellers honesty, but I am going to pass on this coin. There are a lot of these out there and I don't want a cleaned coin. Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts and opening my eyes to cleaned SLQ. Obviously I have a lot the learn about what to look for. I think it may be more difficult to find F/VF examples, especially with an array of strikes. I'll take my time and look harder. There is no rush. I'll share future coins as I come across them, if I may? I love being a member of our family!
