Hi all! I just came upon this 1857 Flying Eagle cent (bought because it looked interesting) and wanted some help with A. Clearly a Double die but which snow variety? N and T have clear doubling 2nd A of AMERICA is very thick suggesting doubling B. The right hand side of the obverse has something going on and I can't tell what it is. Reverse looks normal
Your coin looks like a Snow-4 DDO FS-101. There is a rim Cud above STATES that you can see easy on higher examples that I believe you can see on yours. Here's my example (rough photos, it was a while ago):
Thank you coinhunter27....Upon more careful examination, I believe you are correct! I was stuck on Snow 10 because my cherry pickers shows that one with the N doubling and the S-4 picture focuses on the A of America. I coan also see the rim Cud and the doubling on the lower serif of C. Just Carl---You must collect Shield nickel double dies if this one is too minor for you, its actually a pretty wide spread! &
