1942 Nickel Without Mint Mark - Coin Community Forum

halfamind Pillar of the Community United States 1496 Posts	Posted 04/09/2021 6:47 pm Weight should be around 5 grams whether it's the usual composition or the 35% silver "War" nickel. As you can see, this one has lost roughly 5% of its mass (about 1/4 gram) due to wear and tear. The type 1 was made of the typical copper nickel alloy, while the type 2 used a silver alloy. The type 2 versions carried large mint marks over the dome of Monticello to signify the change in composition. Report this Post to the Staff
