Sorry It's really hard to get a pic of but it looks like doubling on the ear I'm not familiar with these could anyone confirm or deny? Is this something even worth keeping or not? Thank you!
You can also see it on the outline of the bust on that same side. MD is the cause of this. It only affects the outside/inside edges of the design. On a doubled die, the affected areas would be on the centers of the devices. MD is cause by the machine, not by the die. Even doubled dies can have Machine Doubling. A seasoned collector would not buy a coin with MD if it were a variety. To us it is a distraction from what is really going on with the hub doubling. Example below: Note the date are showing hub doubling. But then look at the areas with arrows. That is Machine Doubling. Note how it affects the devices. Always on the outside/inside edges and flattens the affected areas. A doubled die enlarges and make the affected areas wider/taller on the devices. Hope this helps.
