I gave him a quick tour of Perth and Fremantle, including a stop at Sterling & Currency coin store in Fremantle. The owner had a heap of U.S. coins that he offered my friend at 1/2 face value. He too quite a few coins and let me know later that one of them was a Columbian half dollar. Lucky duck. I wasn't going to miss out though, so I grabbed a heap of Ikes at 1/2 face value. He wouldn't listen when I said they were silver and offered him more money so $2 is what he got. I like to use the '57 for coin flips in settling arguments between the kids.
