theconductor New Member United States 8 Posts	Posted 02/14/2009 09:40 am Hi folks, I am wondering if someone can offer some advice here. I have been collecting half dollars for the last five months, but I am still having trouble spotting double dies. I have done some research on google and have looked at pictures, but it's still really tough for me to tell what is and what isn't a double die even with using a magnifying glass. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 02/14/2009 6:26 pm Few doubled dies will be strong enough to be seen with the naked eye. I would recommend a good lens(at least 10x) and good white light. Many people use microscopes to search coins for doubled dies but having one is not necessary for the casual searcher. Here is a link to Ken Potter's website with a good photo tutorial describing various forms of doubling. What kind of half dollars are you collecting? If you are into Kennedys and Franklins, this would be a good book for you. You may also want to look at a Cherrypickers Guide, it lists doubled dies, repunched mintmarks, and other varieties.
