1972 d Lincoln Cent unc. 2.89gr -.22gr from 3.11 tolerance is .13gr. Thoughts? Thanks

if the scale is accurate then the coin is somewhet underweight, and might carry a small premiumn from people who collect these

It happens, probably more than we think because most people don't weigh their coins.

I assume the diameter is normal and it is rolled thin?

I find it interesting that the strike doesn't look weak. I wonder how light the planchet has to be before it starts to effect the coin's design details.

Possibly the 6:00 obverse and 12:00 reverse may be thinner on those areas of the planchet? It would be slight though. Look at the rim are these opposite sides of the coin:

Areas will be weakened on the affected areas of the design. (Polished dies are not the result of this. weight going in and out will be the same pre/post strike)

CoopHome: What makes a coin weigh less than normal? reduced thickness of the planchet. not seen often, I wonder if they flatten the edge of the beginning of the rolls, making these planchets thinner on just that area of the blanks?

The diameter is normal. The edges look normal. Fact is the devices are normal and so is everything else on the coin except the weight. Wrong planchet?
