Hi,

I'm sure I have some in the thousands of coins I have to sort through, but need an example so they don't slip past me-especially minor versions which I'm sure I have some of!

Pictures don't do me justice-it would really help me to see it "live". It's getting to the point that I keep questioning whether I am seeing a DDO or Machine Doubling or it's just the angle of the light which I swear makes all text double at times which gets me REALLY confused!

Maybe I can trade for some with coins you need or I could send a SASE?

Looking for cheap versions obviously-hopefully there are some of those!

Thanks for any help,
Marlies

You might have better luck if you narrowed the categories a bit. Do you want modern DDO / DDR, some references for RPM, something else? Are you focused on a particular denomination like cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves?

Stuff does come up for sale on ebay, Brian's coins, Variety Vista, Wexler, and elsewhere. I was just looking at a few of the "door" error nickels for $4 each. If you only want a reference and not a resale coin, I think people probably have some with scratches, edge damage, or other issues that would prevent grading but still provide a reasonable example for a microscope.

I have mostly pennies and quarters, so that are my main areas. I look at nckels and dimes at times as well which is why I added those to the list. Non resale coins would be great too since I really just want reference points which is why I asked for cheap ones. DDO-DDR as well as Machine Doubling are more of my focus since those seem to be the hardest to find and tell apart.

That makes sense. For the doubled die examples, are you looking for PCGS/NGC certified DDO / DDR varieties, any Cherrypicker DDO / DDR varieties, or the more esoteric stuff published by Wexler, Brian, Variety Vista, CONCECA?

I ask that because the more subtle stuff is probably way more affordable than well-recognized Cherrypicker varieties. The TPG certified varieties are mostly an even more restrictive subset of the Cherrypicker varieties, and would likely be more expensive still.

Good grief-how many varieties are there? I will be getting the 2023 Red Book in a few weeks so maybe that might help.

I was just looking for an example of DDO / DDR and MD-doesn't matter where.

Hi,

I've found a bunch of them and will post on the other forum when I get time. The DDO are easier to see on quarters, but once I saw a few there I could find them easier on the pennies.
