These are some current prices for 1 oz bullion coins from a major seller:

Krugerrand, spot + $80
Britannia, spot + $102
Mapleleaf, spot + $106
AGE, spot +$130
Buffalo, spot + $135

Do these relative premiums last over time or do they eventually settle in and around spot?

Is it buy cheap, sell cheap? It does seem like you do get some premium back when selling buffalos.

Or just buy the cheapest because ounce of gold is ounce of gold?

They change all the time. I paid as little as $70 to as high as $250. Really depends on the market. The pre 33 used to sell for $120 over spot they are now selling for around $200, but do to the high price, a dealer will over you under spot if you are selling.

There will be higher premiums that are relatively consistent for some, such as AGE, Buffalos and Maple Leafs. Buy what you like or collect and recognize that the intrinsic value of the PM will make up the primary value of non numismatic items.
