In January 2023, during our mild winter that year, I started metal detecting a wooded hillside below one of the oldest parks in Milwaukee, located by Lake Michigan.
It's been the best spot I've ever hunted. Over the course of the winter and spring I made many trips there. I found an 1852 and an 1855 Large Cent, a 1914-D Barber dime, four Indian Head cents, an 1883 "with Cents" V nickel, a small gold ring, several Buffalo nickels and lots of Wheaties.
This week I came across a photo of what the hillside looked like back in the 1880s. Some of these pathways, once partially paved, still exist. The hillside is now wooded over, but the photo gives a nice view of what was once there.
Here's the photo along with some of my best finds from the hillside.
