ANA - Explore the history of the Austrian Habsburg Dynasty and the tragic fate of Austria's ill-fated rulers in this NumismaTalks. From Queen Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution to Emperor Josef II after World War One, the Habsburg rulers were marked by personal misfortune, untimely death, and political turmoil. The Viennese Mint issued six Austrian commemorative coins from 1997-1999 honoring these historical figures. Collectors and history enthusiasts alike will discover how these coins capture the stories of tragic European monarchs and serve as tangible reminders of a fascinating period in European history.

Presenter: Bob Bair. Robert "Bob" Bair has been involved in numismatics since 1956, first as a collector, then as a coin dealer starting in 1987. As a boy growing up in northwestern Wisconsin in the 1950's he began collecting coins that he received from his newspaper route, and a lifelong passion was born. Bair holds masters degrees in U.S. History (1970) and Educational Administration (1994).
