The April 4, 1952 edition of the Alabama Tribune carried an advertisement from the Carver-Washington Coin Commission. It offered a free Booker T. Washington commemorative Half Dollar with the purchase of one of the new George Washington Carver - Booker T. Washington commemorative Half Dollars - the cost of the new issue was $2.00 per coin.

The Birthplace Memorial was constantly looking for new promotional angles to market its existing inventory!

I'm impressed, but not surprised, by your deep research to uncover that April 4, 1952 Alabama Tribute advertisement.

I can only imagine, wrongly I assume, you spending hours pouring through microfilm of historical documents on the search for the elusive heretofore unreported facts behind these coins.

However you manage to find the facts, I certainly appreciate your sharing them with us and extend my nod of gratitude to your scholarship.

My research approach and tools have definitely changed over the years.

I recall many early trips to the library to descend into its sub-basement to visit the "Government Stacks" and pour through various printed volumes searching for items of interest and then hauling them up to photocopiers to get paper copies. It was a chore!

Fortunately, technology has progressed and many resources have now been digitized - things are comparatively easier but still time consuming!
