I've written about the various Coin and Currency Sets produced by the United States ("US") Mint in conjunction with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing ("BEP") and/or the US Postal Service ("USPS") (an Index of them can be found here: Index To Commemorative Coin & Currency Sets. I've long thought, however, that the World War I Centennial commemorative coin program would have made for a great C&C Set.

The Mint, the BEP and the USPS each issued a 2018 commemorative for the WWI Centennial, so a Set featuring all three seemed a "natural." Alas, my thinking wasn't widespread and no such package was produced. At least not until I decided to make my own "Custom Set"!

My "Coin & Currency Set"combines existing, standalone products into one virtual package that fits together well (IMO) under a unified WWI Centennial theme.

The core of my Set is the "2018 World War I $2 Commemoorative Currency Collection". The Set was produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing ("BEP"), and includes two Series 2013 $2 Federal Reserve Notes, one from the New York Federal Reserve District ("FRD") and one from the Atlanta FRD. The first four digits of the matchine seriesl numbers for the notes is "2018" in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary. The Set also includes an engraved, uniface print of the reverse of the Series 1918 $2 Federal Reserve Bank Note - it presents a WWI-era New York-class Batttlehip.

The BEP package is larger than the US Mint C&C Sets, measuring 11-1/2" wide x 5" tall (per panel). The Folder unfolds to reveal four panels, with each either presenting brief historical information (top, #1), one of the Series 2013 $2 Notes (#2 and #4) or the reproduced battleship engaving (#3).

I pass along my hearty kudos to you commems for having the insight to put together these three related issues.

I fully concur with your premise that official issuers missed out on producing an obvious Coin and Currency set.

It's a good thing that the collecting world has your example on how to make do when the big boys fall down on the job.

@All: Thanks for engaging and the positive feedback! Much appreciated!

If I may...

I try not to 'pigeon-hole' my collecting, I go where the history takes me! Sometimes, it leads me to projects like this one.
