Here's an advertisement for the 1938 New Rochelle, NY 250th Anniversary Half Dollar that was used in 1937.

I like the 'peer pressure' tactic used - "Texas and California are buying the coins, you should too!"

That is an interesting historical document.

It references the payment to Lord Pell as 'pounds sterling currant (sic) silver money of this province'

So, in 1688 what form of silver currency would that have been?

I suppose the contenders were Spanish Milled Dollars (8 reales), Massachusetts Pine Tree Shillings, Various English Coins or German Thalers.

Anyone have thoughts as to which of these is most likely?
