I'm reminded why I didn't complete my Barber quarter set. Advertised in the Numismatic News magazine.

Wow - that is a lot of $$. I'm not familiar with the details of this series but there must be only a few of these available.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

Mintage of 72,664 - second lowest, after 1913-S (40,000).
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

It's not in a TPG.
I'd be careful spending that
Kind of money.

You have to wonder why a coin like that is not in a graded holder.

I noticed that in the 2012 Red Book, this is listed as $22,000 in VF. So with inflation, it has dropped in value.

This ad is listed by a highly reputable shop in Greenville, SC. I am fortunate enough to have family close by, and have shopped there while visiting Greenville.
As far as info about this particular key, this is a "fair price" for a coin in the listed grade. While it is only the second lowest mintage of any quarter in the 20th century, with only 72,000 minted, The 1901-S still stands as the 'King of Barbers' above the lowest mintage date: 1913-S (40,000 minted).
Unfortunately, the price puts coins like this out of my collecting reach. This is a beautiful example, and if I had the funds would add it to my collection.
