Today, on September 11, 2026, we mark the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and the loss of thousands of lives. It was a defining day in United States ("US") history.
I remember sitting in my office and noticing the string of jets lined up to land at a nearby airport. I wasn't yet aware of what was going on in New York City (and elsewhere), but I figured something must be happening as the number of planes approaching was far above the norm.
I soon learned of the attack from a co-worker and was able to put the puzzle pieces together. It was my "I'll always remember when" experience.
The US Congress authorized, and the US Mint subsequently struck, a national commemorative medal:
