Hi !

I have started a collection many years ago and for few year I do not buy anything, like soeone a see my first post, I had chearching some information about the coins and my interest come back a little bite lol

I buy the majority of what I have in a local market and I pay around 50-60% of the price.

My other basic question, how much you pay in general for your coins
(in % of the value)? (I enderstand that the key can be very higher)

I check them on ebay for fun this weekend and I find them expensive... I do not have a list of price at date but I'm little bite surprised.

I'm surprised too by the grade.... 75% are overgraded, if you pay the full price + shipping for a VF and in reality it's a fine and sometime very good.... in reality some pay 2 and 3 times the value ...

I buy few proof like set... all very commun and 2 nickel but I do not see any real deal.

What do you think about that ?

THanks !

I try and get the lowest price possible. I have found that buying bulk lots from members here on the forum is a great way to go also. Some members here here sell very often and at reasonable prices. Another venue is local auctions. Much harder to get a great deal but sometimes you can be the only one interested in what is on the block. For example , I picked up up a really nice 1921 Morgan, 1922 & 1923 Peace dollars for $20 bucks this past weekend at one. Then there is roll searching, that of course is at face value.

For ebay , I'm only buying Certified coin such as ICCS or CCCS , the reason is that you buy the grade mentionned in the certification , otherwise if you buy coins not certified you will get surprise : coin cleaned, polish, lower grade than you though ... and if your lucky sometime you can get high grade for less but kinda rare.

if they are un-graded ill pay 40% to 60% less than what I think they are. if they graded ill pay 10% to 40% less depending on the coin rarity.

at local store ill say I buy my coin 10% to 30% less than their value.

what exactly are you looking for your collection I can help you if you need help or price.

Good luck !

Hi !

Thanks for this help :)

It's sure that I will not buy on ebay if I do not see a close picture ( unbelivable but some don't show the good side lol )

I just see that the deal are not easy to find, like a tell I also collect stamp and with my experience it's more easy to find deal on stamps. On stamp I already pay 10% of the value on about 10 stamps ( on the same seller) the total value was about 1000$ and I pay under 100$ for all.

In coin's I find them expensive and when it's certified is out of price !

For the moment I will try to complete or at least advence my collection of 5˘ , I buy some proof like set of commun year too on ebay.. I think that it's the better way to complete the commun year, buy them 1 by one it's too expensive. The qulity of the proof like set is corect for me... I'm not interrested to pay 5 time the price to have a gem. If anyone have a price guide book of the last year or 2 year it can be good for me too. I have a old unitrade but someone talk of a another compagny... I don't know if it's better but anyway I'm not looking for expensive item like a tell to you I also collect stamps and miniatures train's I have 3 aquarium lol my budget for hobby are very splitted.

I want to post some list in the section " wanted" but I need 50 post lol I can not write "blablabla" just to complete them lol.

Does it have other auction or place to buy that ebay ?

I check here in the section " sell" but the major part are USA coins, it will be great if it can have a canadian section ? and the search tool does not work well.

Anyway it's fun to check them and talk about them too :)

THanks !

In my experience, you won't get great deals on ebay. You usually end up paying at least 80%... I used to get much better deals on ebay Live auctions (70% average), though that site has been taken down. 50-60% sounds great, where do you buy your coins from?

I'm trying not to pay much more than 70% right now, generally for graded stuff.
There are tremendous deals to be had on ebay with a little patience, but certain dates
will always bring strong bids regardless of what's going on in the world.
