I have been metal detecting constantly in parks and old historic places and have yet to find a single old coin? I found one wheatie in my back yard and it wasn't even that old. Any tips for finding the old stuff?
It's getting tougher and tougher. Many of the really old places around here have been mowed down so that new develop could be built. I would think most of the parks and old places around have been searched over pretty good over the years. Everything hasn't been found, but I think a good bit of it has. I did pull a 1908 dime out of an old school yard. I know for a fact it has been search for years. You just never know. Now if you know some people that have old property you can check with them to search it.
Spread the word that you metal detect. You would be surprised at how many locations come up in conversation. Good luck.
From the land of the Bluenose......if there is any paths around lakes, ask farmers....usually their fields have been around for a while and talk to the old bouys in your community....hope this helps.
As for me I wear a conversation piece...a neckalce made of about 150 gold and silver rings...gets folks talking and opens the door.
