How is it that PCGS will not grant a "First Day of Issue" grade for the Lincoln pennies to anything other than an unsealed brick of coins purchased with the date on or before August 13th?
They say you can purchase these coins from the bank, but as we all know, that is not the reality.

I am not sure I understand your question August 13 was the First Day of Issue and anything with another date would not be FDI. This has been the same procedure with any other "First Day of Issue" coin, it is not something new with the Lincolns. You can purchase a $25 box from a bank, just maybe not your bank. Where do you think all the boxes on ebay came from? They had to have come from a bank or armored carrier service since the Mint and the Fed do not sell boxes directly to the public.

I will check my bank to see if I can get these boxes. Last time I asked about these pennies my bank did not have any

His point is the chance of actually getting them from the bank on the first day is practically zero. Yes there will be a few people who managed it but for the general collector, forget it.

I would agree the chances of going to a bank and receiving this coin would not even be close to reality, the people you do see on E-Bay either work in a bank( ordering coinage),or a smart/sly bank manager, work at the supplier's company, or know someone who does.

Also the way the Mint/Feds set this 2009-coinage release up is anything but a level playing field, don't kid your self....It is not always what you know, sometimes WHO you know!

The people selling those boxes know somebody. Remember, it's not what you know, but WHO you know.
