Has anyone seen this sort of thing before? I snapped a photo beside a penny I took out of my pocket, just to show the actual color variation. I have had this penny a long time. In fact, I do not even remember where it came from. Any ideas on this?

Well, that interesting! I take it this was never done at a mint level. That's a fair value, 1 cent, even though I did not ask for it. But I got to tell you that's where I think you are wrong.....that poor dear in the the other side of this coin has half her forehead gouged. I would not even value it at 1 cent. Just wondering about the plating...

I'd agree about the project plating - aligator clip marks at 11:30 and 12:00, possibly the same on the obverse?

Science project gone bad it is! Thanks all! I have always wondered how it got that way. I am actually going through my collection, to see if there are any unanswered questions that I have about any of the coins in it. Love this site That's 1 for 1.
