I think you did pretty well. Looks like the photo may have hurt the overall price, which happens alot.

Thanks. Yeah, I would say it is XF-AU or so. I have to admit though, part of the reason I bid on it is because I thought it had a very miniscule shot at being the overdate(probably less than 1%, but still a shot). It's hard to make out what is going on in the tiny pic, so I blew it up to try to study the bottom loop of the "8"...then compared it to certified XF-AU examples of both the 18-s and the 18/7-s.  Doubtful, and I'm obviously fine with it if it isn't the overdate, but that tiny chance adds a bit to the excitement factor.  Edited by johnny54321

If it is the overdate you will officially be the luckiest person in the world. Still a great deal and looks like a nice original coin.  |

Yeah, well a lot of things would have to go right. Even if it has the right look in hand, it could be altered. I am willing to bet there are more altered dates than genuine overdates. There are certain diagnostics(die flow pattern and die pits next to the date) that will require examination with a loupe. Also, the 8 looks close, but still a little off compared to the genuine overdates though I can't quite make out what's going on. It will definitely be educational. :-)

I think its an EF coin - just really tough to tell what the actual color of the coin is and true wear. Head and shield both seem to have pretty good detail. I would think that in hand, it'll look much better, and may have a shot at AU due to detail and/or luster.

pft, I would keep it. Slabbed of course. Basically money in the bank, with a better return of investment if you ask me.

I like SLQs, but am not really into varieties, so I'd sell it and dump the money into coins I collect, and buy something for my wife... Ok, now it's time for me to wake up...  |
