Hi all! Just wanted to let everyone know I'll be away for a few days, we had a nasty thunderstorm here and my apartment building got struck by lightning. Nothing damaged but my modem, go figure! Yes, I said modem, I still use dial-up! I should be back soon, once the Geek Squad gets done with my computer! Rachel [:p]

We'll be here waiting. Maybe it's time to consider high speed internet?

Of course, and yet you pay more than some high-speed internet connections for SLOW dial-up. Not to mention the hassle of a modem that could get zapped! Hope to see you online soon.

You mean there's some other option? Kyra, my free, used monitor and my 10 dollar Compaq Presario from the Disabled American Veteran's Thrift Store salute you and your modem. Can't wait til you get back and tell of your latest cherrypicks from the bank.

My modem consists of two chipmunks running in circular cage! Thinking of adding a third chipmuck so I can go high speed!!! Hurry back Kyra!

Ok now you all thoroughly confused me I got a copperjet modem which is connected to a telephone line with asyncronous DSL ( whence they call it ADSL over here ) It is the synchronisation between the modem and the provider that makes it broadband 4640 kps download speed Dial up would cost me about 4 times as much because we pay telephone time per minute between 8.30 am and 5 pm

I'm back! The Geek Squad guy didn't make too much fun of me for still using dial-up! I'm still sorting through the massive amounts of e-mail that piled up while I was offline, so I hope to get back on here soon. Rachel [:p]

You may want to get a surge protector that you can run your phone line through. I never thought about using that port on my surge protector until I read your post.

Hi Snowman! Funny you should mention a surge protector, the Geek Squad guy told me that the older your protector is, the less it protects. I guess as it absorbs surges and whatnot it starts to lose effectiveness. Maybe that should have been obvious to me, but it wasn't! Needless to say, my new surge protector has a place to plug the phone line into it!
